Seasons for Life - Parent and Supplementary Training

Description
These two professional learning modules are offered as part of the Seasons for Life initiative.
The 2-hour Companion Supplementary Training is designed to build the knowledge and capacity of trained Companions when running the SFG groups with young people who have experienced a loss by suicide.
The 3-hour Parent Program: "Supporting young people following a suicide loss in the community" is intended to strengthen wraparound support for students following suicide loss, including supporting parent-child relationship building and communication.
Outcome
In the 2-hour supplementary session, Companions learn about:
- Young people and suicide
- Grief after a loss by suicide
- What are the ways we can support young people?
- How does Seasons for Growth provide support?
- Caring for ourselves.
In the 3-hour training session for the Parent program, Companions learn how to facilitate a single learning session (of 90 mins) for parents and carers about:
- Why loss and grief can be a challenge for young people.
- How suicide loss impacts on young people.
- Worden's Tasks of Grief in the Seasons for Growth programs.
- What parents can do to support their children.
- Why quality relationships and communication are important.
Pre-requisites
You need be a trained Companion in the Seasons for Growth Children and Young People's Program to attend this training event.
